December means it’s TopGear’s Speed Week. A name so very literal but one that still fails to capture the magnitude of it all. Each year it expands to reflect the hard work the industry has put into 0-100km/h times, aerodynamics, drift systems, Grand Tourers, saloons, supercars and specialised track weapons. The statistics are mighty: 13 cars, 4660kW – that’s an average of over 300kW – with cars from R400 000 to over R4 million. Each tested on track with the best progressing into one epic roadtrip. We won’t spoil the biggest verdict of the year. Also in this issue we drive the new cars released in South Africa this month while we preview the upcoming Dakar Rally by loitering around the Hallspeed workshop where all the Hiluxes are being prepared.
