We have been seeing a slowdown in the semiconductor market for the past half year. That being said, several companies have begun to see the light at the end of this tunnel. In recent months, we have seen advancements in the AI space, such as ChatGPT and several other technological introductions. From the advent of 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT to Additive Manufacturing, they have altered the very fabric of the semiconductor landscape in the recent years; unlocking infinite possibilities and growth for businesses.

SSIA will continue to organize platforms such as the Semiconductor Women's Forum — in its third iteration on March 9, 2023-to demonstrate the concerted efforts by the industry to embrace a culture of diversity and inclusion as part of growing the talent pipeline; to inspire and attract more female talent to join and thrive in our industry.

While the road ahead will not be easy, we have braved many storms before as an industry in solidarity. With this spirit, we stand together as one voice, one ecosystem, and one people.

DEVELOPING TALENTS FOR AN ELECTRIFYING FUTURE — As we wrapped up a year of highs and lows in 2022, there are still a lot of uncertainties that abound globally as we start off the year. Around the world, there are signs that the global economy is projected to face strong headwinds: mounting energy costs, geopolitical tensions, rising inflation and disruption in supply chains.

Through these challenges, building a strong robust talent pool remains top of mind. With about 2000 jobs expected to be created in the next three to five years in our sector, the burning question will be where and how do develop these talents and to retain them. More importantly, besides mid-career switchers, the aim of most companies is to steer the youth as their career of choice.

This issue of VOICE Magazine coincides with SSIA's Electronics Industry Day 2023, and focuses on the talent of tomorrow.

INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION — As technology, sustainability and other major shifts reshape the way companies operate, the big question has always been how can businesses enthuse and empower their workers with the skills to stay relevant and competitive.
