India has an installed Rebar capacity of over 40 million tonnes including the very large producers such as SAIL, Tata & RINL. More than 50% of this capacity is run by the large & small manufacturers based in four of the largest TMT clusters of India namely UP, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh & West Bengal. Also, over the next two years, almost 10 MnT of additional capacity (almost 9 MnT from very large players) is expected to go on-stream.

My colleagues Ritu Kashyap & G. Swapnil spoke to over 60 TMT makers (probable ones) across the country and have collated a list of Top 20 TMT manufacturers along with their current capacity. We have also included a list of very large (1 million tonne & above) Bars & Rods manufacturers of India with their current scale and capacities in pipeline.

Experts are of opinion that the very large players have an edge over the smaller units and with growing quality consciousness among Indian consumers, demand for bigger brands may grow, triggering a branding war among the top players. Read the complete study on Page 22.
