The Indian Flat Steel Industry - An Overview:
Stemcor assets have not been auctioned yet and the frenzy in media has largely reduced. In a recent twist in the tail, ICICI Bank has filed a petition in Kolkata High Court against such sale initiative of Stemcor indicating that Stemcor’s Indian assets are part of collateral with the bank.
The Flat Steel industry in India holds parallel importance as Long Steel industry in the Steel sector of the country. India produced about 36 MnT Flat Steel in FY13, half of the total finish steel produced in the year. The industry is more organized compared to Long, with around 65-70% of the total production coming from the top 6 manufacturers. Our October cover story – ‘The Indian Flat Steel Industry – An Overview’ is an effort to introduce the industry to you.
