Wales swelters at 33.1°C on the hottest day of year

|July 14, 2025
WALES recorded its hottest day of the year so far at the weekend - and the hottest day since July of 2022 - as temperatures reached scorching highs of 33.1°C.
The hot weather remained yesterday but temperatures dropped slightly as the UK passed the peak of its third heatwave this summer.
Temperatures soared on Saturday, with Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales all recording their warmest day of the year so far.
Temperatures in Wales rose to 33.1°C in Cardiff’s Bute Park, beating the 2025 record set on Friday of 32.4°C in the same location.
It was the hottest day in Wales since July 2022, when temperatures got to 37.1°C in Hawarden, Flintshire.
While those who did make it to their destination could be seen enjoying the heatwave on beaches and other locations around Wales, some rail passengers were advised not to travel due to a defect on the line in Abercynon in south Wales, which stopped all services between Pontypridd, Merthyr and Aberdare.
The incident, which was still causing disruption yesterday and was said to be caused by the heat, hit many fans heading to the Welsh capital for the second night of Stereophonics at the Principality Stadium.
