Ceremonies held to mark VE Day 80th anniversary

TOWNS and villages throughout Cornwall came together on VE Day to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thursday, May 8, marked the 80th anniversary since the day Nazi Germany formally surrendered to Allied forces, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Commemoration ceremonies and VE Day celebrations were held in communities including Truro, Falmouth, Penryn, Camborne and Redruth, with residents and dignitaries coming together to pay their respects.
With VE Day itself coinciding with Flora Day, events in Helston took place over the weekend, but the town also paid tribute on Flora Day, with a two-minute silence at the start of the Midday Dance.
