Linus Low, 20, zips around town in his 1992 Lotus Elan

Young Man With A Taste For Old Cars

Mr Linus Low, 20, loves cars from the 1990s. So, after obtaining his driving licence in 2023, instead of getting a modern car, he went for a 1992 Lotus Elan, a two-seater roadster that was 13 years older than him.

Launched 35 years ago, the Lotus Elan – known internally as the M100 – is one of the most controversial cars in the history of Lotus. This is the only front-wheel-drive model in the British brand's 73-year history. Lotus purists decry the format as sacrilegious because they believe that a true sports car should always be rear-wheel driven.

But owners like Mr Low can attest to the effectiveness of the layout and the Elan's sure-footed handling.

Mr Low, a digital content intern at an online car sales portal, credits his early passion for cars to his father, whose active involvement in local car clubs left a lasting impression on him.

The young man's penchant for cars from the era was sparked by Running In The 90s, a high-energy 1988 Eurobeat track known for its fast tempo, flashy synths and association with the car culture of that time.
