SEA-BASED SOLAR ENERGY: HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE OCEAN

Sumitomo Mitsui Construction (SMC) spearheaded the installation of Japan's first commercially operational offshore solar farm in April 2024. This innovative approach is projected to generate significantly more power than land-based systems.

Taketomi Yukio, director of SMC's Business Creation Division, explains that the water's cooling effect prevents panel overheating, maintaining efficiency. The system also eliminates the need for site clearing, minimizing environmental impact.

This innovation has been recognized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as crucial for sustainable urban development.
