In a well-calculated move, the NDA government may introduce the Immigration and Foreigners Bill during the Budget session of parliament, which will be held from Friday to April 4, with a recess.
It is part of the government's legislative agenda to strengthen its legal framework to address the issue of illegal immigration, especially concerning Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya refugees, among others.
The bill has been accorded top priority. Sixteen bills in all have been prioritized for this session, including the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to bring reforms in banking regulations, and the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aimed at modernizing railway operations and governance.
