HERE are the player ratings of Herald Sport's Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims' 1-0 Vertu Trophy defeat by Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

- Chris Errington

Luca Ashby-Hammond 4 - Played his first game for seven weeks because Conor Hazard is away on international duty with Northern Ireland. Made one good save to tip an early Luke Thomas shot over the bar but gifted Rovers their winning goal when he dropped a corner from Jack Sparkes and Kamil Conteh bundled it over the line. It was a wet and windy night in Bristol but, even so, the 'keeper will know he should not have let that happen.

Kornel Szucs - It was less than 90 seconds after kickoff that the defender allowed Bryant Bilongo to get in behind him and when he held him back it left referee Aaron Farmer with no option but to send him off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. It meant his teammates had to complete the rest of the cup tie with only 10 players.

Mathias Ross 6 - Argyle started the game in a 3-4-2-1 formation but switched to a 4-4-1 setup after the very early dismissal of Kornel Szucs, with Ross playing at centre-back alongside Alex Mitchell.
