Within days of announcing that it would contest the BMC elections on its own and stay out of the MVA framework, the Mumbai Congress has stated that it aims to contest the polls in alliance with democratic and Constitutionrespecting parties, in a veiled reference to the MNS.

Notably, certain Congress leaders earlier expressed their willingness to forge an alliance with MNS in Nashik, following which state chief Harshwardhan Sapkal issued a show-cause notice, seeking a clarification on the announcement.
