Blow for United as Trippier injury proves worse than first feared

NEWCASTLE United have been rocked by an injury to Kieran Trippier with the former England full back’s hamstring injury worse than previously feared.

Trippier missed the 2-1 win over Manchester City last weekend and was left at home for the defeat in Marseille on Tuesday. But he could now be facing a longer layoff after further assessment.

Newcastle are also set to be without Sven Botman for today’s game after a fresh problem emerged.

There was better news for Yoane Wissa, although the DR Congo inter national is not going to make the squad for the trip to Everton.

Wissa has trained with the team in the buildup to the Merseyside encounter, but Eddie Howe is taking extra caution with the £55m after his knee injury back in September.

Howe, speaking yesterday, said of Trippier: “He had a scan on his hamstring, and we think it is roughly about a month give or take, that is the diagnosis.
