NEW MAGPIES CHIEF LOOKING TO FUTURE AFTER FOREST SWITCH

- BY LEE RYDER

Wilson's calling the Toon

NEWCASTLE UNITED have confirmed the appointment of Ross Wilson as the club's sporting director.

Wilson replaces former Monaco supremo Paul Mitchell who quit the Magpies at the end of last season after less than 12 months in the role — just days after celebrating Champions League qualification.

Newcastle's Saudi owners PIF had watched Wilson for some time and, after making their move, a deal was swiftly done.

The Scot joins the Toon from Nottingham Forest where he was chief football officer.

The Magpies said Wilson will be in charge of “sporting strategy, development and recruitment across men’s, women’ and academy teams, working closely with the club’ football leadership and executive teams’.
