The deadline looms for communities planning to celebrate Charles's crowning with street parties

Fancy a street party? Better apply today!

COUNTDOWN TO A CORONATION

COMMUNITIES wanting to organise a Coronation street party have until tomorrow to submit an application form to their council.

Celebrations of the age-old tradition surrounding royal occasions date back generations.

Both King George VI’s Coronation in 1937, pictured inset, and his daughter Queen Elizabeth II’s in 1953, brought streets to a standstill across the nation.

And official government advice says organising gatherings for neighbours is a simple process that does not need a licence, as would be required for public events anyone can attend.

As long as parties are not publicised outside a street and neighbouring ones, and no alcohol will be sold, insurance and formal risk assessments are also not needed.

But a local authority may require organisers to fill out a simple application form on its website if a temporary road closure is needed.
