He could have been dead but everyone walked by. What has become of humanity?

I LOST a little bit of faith in humanity this week. There are times when I think “stop the world - I want to get off”. I despair at wars, politics, the state of the NHS, racism, misogyny, homophobia and violence.
Influencers have lost their lives in the pursuit of the perfect selfie and social media has a lot to answer for at times, like the viral TikToks of people dropping heavy objects on their foot and the current trend for arranging flowers in a toilet cistern. I kid you not, Google it.
On a more personal note, rudeness winds me up... the people who don’t say thank you when I've held a door open or let their car out of a side street.
Equally annoying is trying to deal with a problem or complaint and instead of being able to speak to a real human on the end of a phone, you're messaging a bot. They're infuriating examples but I get over it.
But that's not true of an incident I witnessed earlier this week that made me question what we've become as a society. Nottingham Post photographer Joe and I had been out on a job in the city centre and were walking back to the office just after 1pm.
As we turned into Exchange Walk, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares linking Old Market Square and Lister Gate, there was a man lying flat out on the pavement outside Burger King. His legs were sprawled out to the point that pedestrians were almost stepping over him.
He looked unkempt and could have been a rough sleeper, as that’s a spot where they often sit.
