THE first candidates have been confirmed for a Nottinghamshire by-election after a Reform councillor resigned less than a week on from being elected.

Desmond Clarke was confirmed as the new Reform representative for Newark West on Nottinghamshire County Council on May 2, unseating longstanding Conservative councillor Keith Girling. Mr Clarke was one of 40 Reform councillors elected, with the party now in charge of the county council.
