100th birthday bash for D-Day veteran... but he is still feeling 'isolated'

ONE of the last remaining D-Day veterans, who lives in Nottinghamshire, has celebrated his 100th birthday, but still says he struggles with feeling “isolated”.

Norman Powell is believed to be one of the six remaining British men who were involved in the Normandy invasion during the Second World War.

The ex-engineer, who lives in Toton, celebrated his milestone birthday on Monday and welcomed old friends to a small gathering at the Royal British Legion in Wollaton on Friday afternoon.

"I think it’s fantastic and very embarrassing that people have gone to a great deal of work and effort. It’s unbelievable," he said.

Mr Powell also received the customary card from King Charles, something he described as “very nice”.
