Wrasse in the wrecks: Summer sea sport gets underway

SUMMER sea sport is underway with the prolonged long warm spell resulting in some exciting fishing off Ilfracombe.
Predator 2 is the latest charter boat to join the Ilfracombe fleet and its skipper Daniel Welch is taking anglers to Bristol Channel reefs where good numbers of wrasse and pollock are being tempted using the latest lure fishing tactics.
A recent trip resulted in a new Combe Martin SAC club record with a cuckoo wrasse weighing IIb 6oz to the rod of Ross Stanway.
‘A seaqualizer device was used to return fish to the water, minimising harm. The conservation tool, available from the Angling Trust, is also proving valuable for returning pol-
lock caught in deep water. The first tope of the season are also showing along with huss and few mackerel.
