Quay wall work starts ahead of maritime innovation centre bid

CONSTRUCTION has started on a new quay wall in Appledore as the first major step in delivering the Appledore Clean Maritime Innovation Centre.

The project got underway last week, with heavy equipment already arriving on site ahead of piling activity. The early enabling works, which began on Monday, April 14, include rebuilding the quay wall and slipway wall at Middle Dock, beside the Navantia UK shipyard. Improvements to the slipway are also planned, creating vital access to the estuary in preparation for the main facility's construction.

Torridge District Council has appointed Devon-based firm TMS Maritime for the works.

Sean Kearney, head of communities and place at Torridge District Council, said: “We are delighted to have appointed TMS Maritime to undertake these vital works to improve the quay wall, providing improved access for users of building to the estuary.
