Locals fear field is being turned into traveller site

RESIDENTS have called for action after travellers were seen driving diggers and tearing up land at a remote countryside location in Devon.

Vehicles moved onto the field near South Molton on June 2.

Locals say a Devon bank has been “ripped out” and land flattened. Within 24 hours of arriving the land appears to be transformed.

Pictures show extensive ground-work has taken place and there are concerns the group is using “shock and awe’ tactics seen in other parts of the country to create a permanent hard standing area to be used for vehicles following the legal purchase of land.

North Devon Council has confirmed it is looking into allegations of a breach of planning regulations.
