Gately removed kitchen, doors and even the staircase before CAB seized possession

Hutch mobster must wait until December to see how much he owes for gutting home

GANGSTER James 'Mago' Gately will find out next month how much he owes for damaging his former home after its seizure by the Criminal Assets Bureau.

The High Court heard yesterday that the property, at Glin Drive in Coolock, North Dublin, went under the hammer last week for €308,000.

After the property was deemed the proceeds of crime following a legal battle by Hutch gang member Gately and his former partner Charlene Lam, he admitted in court he removed the staircase, internal doors and kitchen.

CAB also ordered that €11,000 from the sale be returned to Ms Lam, who made mortgage payments from legitimate income.

At a previous High Court hearing, the bureau said it will cost €95,000 to repair the damage. It added it wasn't credible that Gately thought he was entitled to do what he did.
