Stranded astronauts set to return tomorrow

WASHINGTON: After more than nine months in space, two Nasa astronauts who captured the world's attention for being stuck in orbit are finally set to return home.

Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams are slated to board a SpaceX Dragon capsule and undock from the International Space Station (ISS) around lam New York time and splashdown around 6pm on Tuesday (around 3am IST on Wednesday).
Williams and Wilmore are scheduled to travel back to Earth alongside Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
Nasa will provide live coverage of the agency's SpaceX Crew-9 return to Earth from the ISS, beginning with Dragon spacecraft hatch closure preparations at 10.45pm EDT on Monday (8.15am IST on Tuesday). Nasa and SpaceX met on Sunday to assess weather and splashdown conditions off Florida's coast for the return of the agency's Crew-9 mission from the ISS.
