AAP Alleges 'Attacks' by BJP, Indifference by EC

Police Said It Did Not Receive a Complaint Over a Specific Attack; ECI Said It Has Taken Action 'As Per Law'

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were resorting to "hooliganism" and "violence" against AAP workers on the "directions of Union minister Amit Shah" and "with the help of the Delhi Police" to suppress the party's election campaign.

Kejriwal said he wrote to the Election Commission of India in this regard, citing at least nine instances of alleged illegal detentions and threats to AAP functionaries. However, the BJP said that the allegations were "fabricated" and are a part of Kejriwal's "political deceit".

In response to the letter, Delhi's chief electoral officer said necessary action in specific instances of "intimidation and harassment" has been taken. The Delhi Police spokesperson did not respond to HT's queries for comment on the allegations of aiding BJP workers in violence.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that the BJP was resorting to such tactics as the AAP is heading towards a "decisive win" in the February 5 polls.
