Objections can be filed till March 10; electoral rolls to be finalised by April 16; last SGPC polls had taken place in 2011
GURDASPUR: BSF personnel on Thursday seized arms and ammunition from Dera Baba Nanak area of Gurdaspur district. Acting on an intelligence input about the presence of a packet near the border security fence, a search operation was conducted in the area, officials said.
During the search operation at about 3.45 pm, the BSF troops recovered two 9mm pistols along with four pistol magazines and 10 live rounds from a wheat field near the border fence adjacent to Metla village, a spokesperson said.
Allegedly smuggled from Pakistan, the pistols and ammunition were found inside a blue-coloured polythene carry bag covered with a cotton cloth.
CHANDIGARH: The polls to elect a new general house for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) are expected to take place in June. The Gurdwara Elections Commission has set April 16 as the date for finalising the electoral rolls, after which it would write to the union ministry for home to announce the election.
