Tomas Magnusson's journey to Gorgie is a hectic and varied one. It is surprising he even has time to recall it while playing professional football, studying for a university degree and preparing to become a father.

The 23-year-old's life appears rather frantic, although he takes it all in his stride.

Magnusson joined Hearts from the Icelandic club Valur Reykjavik in August after a proposed move to England's League Two failed because of visa issues.

He studied computing science at college in America, but left to return to his native Iceland and will soon welcome his new baby into the world.

He regards the way football panned out as a blessing in disguise because it led him to Edinburgh. He has barely even had time to reflect.

"It's been a crazy year, really. I almost went down to England a year ago but that didn't happen," he began.
