POLITICIANS in Australia have urged MPs in Westminster to stop dragging their heels over assisted dying reforms, claiming that their experience is proof "the sky doesn't fall in".

'MPS must stop dragging their heels over assisted dying. It's the right choice'

The country's six states have all legalised voluntary assisted dying (VAD) since 2019 and its two internal territories are expected to introduce legislation.

Alex Greenwich, the New South Wales Legislative Assembly's member for Sydney, said he believed British MPs knew "deep down in their hearts" that it was right to give people this choice.

He added: "Members of your Parliament need to question why they are there. Are they there to have power over people or to empower people? "If they want to be remembered for using their power to prevent people with terminal illnesses accessing a dignified end, then history will hold them accountable.

"And they will hold a level of responsibility for those gruesome and cruel deaths that will continue to happen, the longer the UK drags its feet on this reform." The Daily Express Give Us Our Last Rights campaign has led the way for almost two years in calling for law change in the UK.
