Explore the Pgak'yau way of life in Chiang Rai

Siam Society is holding a study trip to Ban Huai Hin Lad Nai, a community of the Pgak'yau ethnic group in Wiang Pa Pao district of Chiang Rai, from Oct 17-19.

Declared Thailand's first “protected ethnic way of life area” by a 2010 cabinet resolution, the village relies primarily on bamboo shoots, forest tea and wild honey for its livelihood. Rotational farming is still practised for household consumption.

Led by Asst Prof Suwichan Phattanaphraiwan, a Pgak'yau scholar from the School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University, the trip is an opportunity to immerse in the Pgak'yau way of sustainable coexistence with nature.
