2.8m took part in Songkran in city

About 2.8 million people participated in Songkran celebrations in Bangkok, with Sanam Luang being the most popular venue, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

BMA permanent secretary Chatree Wattanakajorn also chair of the Bangkok Event Operation Centre (EOC), said the BMA supported 17 major locations to host the Songkran festival this year. The total number of participants at those venues from April 11 to 15 was 2,883,789 people.

He said the top three locations with the highest attendance were Sanam Luang, with 1,189,999 people; Khao San Road, with 459,722 people; and Silom Road, with 358,728 people.

In terms of waste generated, the total amount from all 17 locations was 312.94 tonnes. The top three spots with the highest waste production were Silom Road in Bang Rak district with 74.79 tonnes of waste, followed by Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon district with 49.66 tonnes, and RCA in Huai Khwang district with 49.25 tonnes.
