As the Chief Economist for the South Asia Region at the World Bank, Dr Franziska Ohnsorge does not have an easy job, especially in today's increasingly volatile geopolitical climate. However, her distinguished decades-long work in public policy, with its focus on addressing key economic issues that influence the development of emerging markets, particularly in South Asia, makes her a uniquely apt candidate for the job.

A Matter of Theory Dr Ohnsorge earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toronto. Her early career included significant roles at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where she focused on fiscal and financial sector policies, savings and consumption patterns, capital flows, trade, and commodity- related issues in emerging markets and developing countries.
