July is the Month when we celebrate the Feast of the Precious Blood and the front cover of our magazine has a beautiful image of a chalice, wine and luscious grapes. The photograph was taken by our Editor, Fr John Walsh OP. ‘It Happened This Month’ relates the significance of the spilt blood of the martyred Carmel Nuns of Compiègne, who died for their faith during the French Revolution. Another Revolution in Russia in 1917 figures as the background for the story of Catherine Doherty, a member of the Russian aristocracy, who is our famous convert. Last month we celebrated the life of the late Pope Francis and in an article on page 28 we celebrate his successor, our new pope, Leo XIV. Hearing is the topic for ‘Matters Medical’ and in a fascinating piece Dom Aelred Magee invites us to look again at the importance of ‘The Sign of the Cross’, which we so often make in a hasty, even at times almost dismissive manner. Our regular series continues and in ‘Echoes’ Patricia Hope has the first in a two-part examination of a ‘History of Agriculture’.
