From itchy skin to a burning mouth, we reveal some very surprising menopause symptoms to look out for
10 strange signs you SHOULDN'T IGNORE

There are currently 13 million women in the UK who are perimenopausal or menopausal, according to the NHS. And, of these, 85% are experiencing symptoms. But it’s not just hot flushes and vaginal dryness that you need to watch for. In fact, there are a staggering 34 symptoms, ranging from the well-known to the downright bizarre. ‘The menopause has a huge impact on the whole body, and everything from the skin to the gums can be affected,’ says women’s health expert Dr Martin Kinsella. Here’s the low-down on some of the lesser-known physical changes, with our expert tips to help you to cope.

1 Itchy skin

Skin gets drier with age, plus frequent hot showers and baths can make irritation worse. SORT IT ‘Have shorter, cooler showers, and cleanse with moisturising oils – regular soaps and gels can remove skin’s natural oils,’ says consultant dermatologist Dr Adam Friedmann. And eat oily fish, avocados and nuts to increase your healthy fat intake. ‘Omega3s and monounsaturated fats create a barrier to protect skin and stop it from drying out, plus fight inflammation,’ adds dietician Sophie Medlin.
