Welsh name reinstated after uproar

A BOOKING platform has bowed to complaints after giving an English name to an historic Welsh property.
Plas Bodegroes has been rechristened because its name was a mouthful for English guests.
The Grade II-listed Georgian manor house on the Llyn Peninsula was renamed Bromfield Hall possibly a reference to English architect Joseph Bromfield, who built the 10-room property in the 1780s.
The decision caused uproar in a mainly Welsh-speaking community tired of seeing traditional Welsh names mis appropriated. It was labelled "shameful" and a "disgrace" to the property's rich heritage.
Until 2006, Plas Bodegroes in Efail-newydd, near Pwllheli, was a hotel that provided Wales' only Michelin-starred restaurant. The hotel closed in early 2021 and reopened a few months later as a self-catering holiday let for up to 20 people.
