Man attacked victim with pickaxe and shovel after wheelbarrow row
West Briton (Truro and Mid Cornwall)
|June 05, 2025
A MAN who attacked two of his neighbours - one with a pickaxe - after being confronted over a wheelbarrow dispute will probably not serve a day in prison, a court has heard.
D’von Maccray, 46, hit his male victim with a pickaxe and then a shovel, causing a significant injury which resulted in scarring, before pushing over the man’s partner who came to his aid.
Maccray, also known as Deryck Fletcher, now lives in Eastbourne Road in St Austell, but at the time of the offence was living in Falmouth Road, Redruth.
He had been due to stand trial at Truro Crown Court but at the last minute pleaded guilty to lesser charges, and the hearing proceeded directly to sentencing.
Maccray admitted one charge of unlawful wounding, one of causing actual bodily harm and one of possessing an offensive weapon.
The hearing on May 27 was told the charges arose from an incident on March 3, 2023, when Maccray's neighbours saw him dump a wheelbarrow full of rubbish on one of their driveways and confronted him.
