BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that Guwahati is set to host at least five to six matches of the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup, set to run from 24 September to 2 November.

He, however, said that a final decision on the number of matches will be finalised only after the completion of the upcoming six-team qualifying tournament in Pakistan.

The women's ODI World Cup Qualifier, set to be held in Pakistan from April 9 to 19 will determine the final two teams for the main tournament. The competition will feature four full members - Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Ireland. These four teams failed to secure direct qualification for the World Cup after finishing between seventh and 10th place in the ICC Women's Championship standings.

Scotland and Thailand are the other two teams in the tournament, and are featuring on the basis of being the next two best-ranked sides in the ICC Women's ODI rankings. Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and host India have already qualified for the tournament after finishing in the top six of the 10-team ICC Women's Championship.

In case Pakistan qualifies for the tournament, a decision could be taken on adding another venue for the tournament. The plan aligns with a hybrid model agreed upon by India and Pakistan in light of ongoing political tensions between the two countries.
