Water interruption would be done at night in case there is a need to implement it amid the impending decrease in allocation given to concessionaires, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

“Our arrangement with the water concessionaires, just in case there will be water interruption, it will be concentrated at night around 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. until 4 a.m., so that the consumption or demand for our consumption is just low and the effect is minimal,” MWSS division manager and engineer Patrick Dizon said over the weekend.

Environment Undersecretary Carlos David has said that the National Water Resources Board will implement a reduction in water allocation for Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water to 48 cubic meters per second from the current 50 CMS starting April.

As of 6 a.m. yesterday, the water elevation of Angat Dam was 201.70 meters or 0.23 meters less compared to its previous level of 201.93 meters.

“During these months, with or without El Niño or La Niña, the water elevation of our reservoir is on the downward trend. The daily drop in the elevation of the reservoir is 17 centimeters. What we don’t want to happen is a drastic drop on the elevation,” he said.

According to Dizon, once the water elevation of Angat reaches its minimum operating level of 180 meters, the allocation for irrigation would be limited.
