Governor Returns Karnataka Microfinance Ordinance, Seeks Discussion in Assembly

GOVERNOR Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday returned the draft Karnataka Microfinance (Prevention of Coercive Actions) Ordinance, 2025, to the State government, citing concerns over its potential impact on business prospects and fundamental rights.
The governor stated that the Ordinance could negatively affect self-help groups (SHGs), which play a crucial role in improving the economic status of the poor. He urged the government to resubmit the draft with necessary clarifications and suggested a detailed discussion during the upcoming Budget session instead of rushing an Ordinance.
