Banu Mushtaq unhappy over poor upkeep of heritage structures

INTERNATIONAL Booker Prize-winning short story writer Banu Mushtaq on Friday expressed disappointment over the neglected condition of Mysuru's heritage structures, despite their similarities to historic buildings in London.

Speaking after releasing her books Edeya Hanathe and Hasi na Mathu Ethara Kathegalu, as well as P.V. Nanjaraja Urs's Hithihasa Srutisida Puttahalli Hadinaru and Tipu Manyathe Sigada Sultana - Andu - Indu, at an event organised by Abhiruchi Prakashana at the Kodagu Sahakara Sangha, Mushtaq reflected on her recent visit to London to receive the International Booker Prize.

"While travelling by train and bus in London, I felt a striking resemblance to Madikeri and Sakleshpur because of their lush green landscapes. It felt familiar, as though I already knew the place," she said.

She recalled her childhood connection with Mysuru, as her father was a health officer in KRS and she often visited the city.
