Cracks on road stretch spark fresh concern

- NARENDRA SETHI @ Dehradun

UTTARAKHAND, increasingly battling the threat of land subsidence, now faces renewed concerns in its popular hill station, Nainital. Following the well-documented crises in Joshimath and Karnaprayag, the picturesque town's Lower Mall Road is showing fresh signs of sinking, raising fears of a potential collapse that could disrupt local life and tourism.

A 20-meter stretch of road, adjacent to a previously collapsed section, has recently subsided by three to four inches, with cracks intensifying immediate concern. The incomplete restoration of the 2018 collapse site increases the sense of urgency despite years of effort and budget allocation.
