"WE are happy that our government has taken steps towards developing Bengaluru on the model of Singapore. But if the Kalyana Karnataka region is developed on the Bengaluru-Mysuru model, people here will be eternally grateful to the state government," said AICC president and Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
Speaking at the 'Health Unveiling' programme organised by the Yadgir district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Health and Family Welfare Department and the Kalyan Karnataka Region Development Board here on Saturday, he told CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar that if this region is developed like Mysuru and Bengaluru, people of this region will not forget them.
Kharge asked the chairman of KKRDB to spend the entire grant of Rs 5,000 crore given for 2025-26 by the end of financial year in a manner, so that the work done should be visible. He further said that due to the shortage of teachers in the region, the quality of the education system has deteriorated. "There is a shortage of teachers for Mathematics, Science and English subjects. Here the situation is teachers appointed from other regions are transferred in the same year. As a result, it is inevitable to see the districts of the region from the bottom of the rank list in SSLC and PUC," he said.
The AICC president said that there is no need to get the approval of the Finance Department for recruitment to various posts in the region under Article 371 J. Therefore, the government should focus more on providing employment to locals under Article 371 J, he said.
