Thieves break into ex-OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik's house, loot over ₹50L

SHOWING scant regard for the heightened security cover for Republic Day celebrations, unidentified miscreants broke into the house of veteran Congress leader and former minister Niranjan Patnaik in the posh IRC Village area and decamped with gold ornaments and other valuables worth over ₹50 lakh late on Saturday night.
Niranjan and his wife were asleep on the ground floor of the house when the incident took place.
Police suspect the anti-socials scaled the boundary wall of Niranjan's compound and entered his house by forcibly opening one of the glass windows. The CCTV footage showed a man taking the stairs to reach the second floor after breaking into the house. He had masked his face in a bid to avoid getting identified. Though initial probe suggested the involvement of only one anti-social, police are verifying further details.
