The gamble pays off in style

PHEW! The Georgia gamble paid off after all.

A Springbok side containing a few total strangers — some actually based overseas — did not disintegrate as some, myself included, had feared was possible against the tough and crafty Georgia, who it is difficult to believe have played rugby for such a short time.

In fact, quite the opposite. The Boks and the Georgians both produced some brilliant rugby, the Boks especially, and the result never looked in doubt. (Er, let’s not talk about some of the place kicking).

The relief was palpable in the Morningside Pub With No Name where the damsels strummed with gusto at their knickers in anticipation of being called upon to supply elastic for the manufacture of catapults for the time-honoured celebratory feu de joie in which the streetlights are shot out. Crash! Tinkle! Tinkle!
