Swift action needed after bribery allegations in IDT oxygen plant tender scandal

A VIDEO allegedly showing IDT (Independent Development Trust) CEO, Tebogo Malaka, and her spokesperson trying to bribe Daily Maverick journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh with a R60 000 bribe (in R200 notes) to drop investigations into the SOE’s irregularities following a forensic investigation into a R836 million Oxygen Plant tender for hospitals goes beyond the pale.

The IDT is a Scheduled 2 public entity under the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) No. 1 of 1999 as amended, and it reports to Parliament through its Executive Authority, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, currently Dean Macpherson, and handles billions of rand of public money.

My first question to the Minister is this: is there sufficient reporting from the IDT with regards to money going into the entity and hence leaving it because the IDT does not face the same auditing regulations that government departments have to adhere to?

If not, what guardrails are going to be implemented or are currently implemented for better scrutiny and transparency?
