CUTS TO OPENING HOURS SPARKED QUEUES

- By ABIGAIL MARLOW Local Democracy Reporting Service

CHANGES have been made at Meltham tip to curb the “chaos” since opening hours were slashed.

When the controversial decision to close Birstall’s Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) was agreed by Kirklees Council’s Cabinet, members also approved the reduction of hours at the Meltham and Upper Cumberworth HWRCs. Both sites used to be open seven days a week but are now open five.

Kirklees councillor Charles Greaves (Independent, Holme Valley North) has told of the consequences of this decision, with cars queuing to access the tip said to have become a daily issue on the days the tip is open, causing problems and delays for neighbouring residents and businesses.
