A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire caused extensive damage to a terraced home in Newcastle.

- By NICOLE GOODWIN

Police were still at the scene on North View, Byker, yesterday following a blaze which broke out at around 10.45pm on Tuesday night.

Northumbria Police confirmed that six homes were evacuated during the incident as five fire crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service battled the blaze.

There were no casualties reported as a result of the fire at the terraced property. It is understood there was a fire in the garden which later spread to the property.
