The moment that all football fans have been waiting for is on the horizon and edging closer, when Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates face off at the FNB Stadium for their iconic Soweto Derby clash on Saturday afternoon.
Even though the fixture is not entirely living up to its standard on the pitch in recent years, off the pitch, it’s a different story altogether, as the hype and fever around the game is second to none.
Year in and year out, there is always a story to tell about the Soweto derby, and this season will be no different, as it will be played back-to-back in the league and Nedbank Cup final a week later.
Here is all that you need to know about the upcoming Soweto derby:
Mbekezeli Mbokazi Soweto derby debut
The new kid on the block, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, is on the verge of etching his name in the history books of this iconic fixture when he makes his Soweto derby debut.
Mbokazi, 19, has become an integral part of coach Jose Riveiro's team that is now competing on two fronts - the Betway Premiership and the Nedbank Cup after crashing out of the CAF Champions League on Friday.
