Violence on trains could see staff balloted on strike

INDUSTRIAL action on East Midlands Railway (EMR) could be on the cards after a series of attacks on staff.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has gone into dispute with the rail company as a result of the incidents, and has now put employers on notice over a reported increase in assaults, warning a national strike ballot across all railway companies could take place if action is not taken.

In a series of recent incidents, EMR staff have been attacked with a fire extinguisher and had hot water thrown at them.
