St Mawes opened his account at the sixth time of asking and can add a second victory to his record in the Close Brothers Colwick Cup Handicap at Nottingham.

Emma Lavelle’s charge had two unsuccessful juvenile outings last term and after what looked a fair return in April this year, he subsequently ran no kind of race at Sandown in June and was then given a break.
St Mawes was gelded during his time on the sidelines and while neither measure initially appeared to have had the desired effect when beating just one horse home at Kempton in August, a step up to two miles last month proved a winning move.
