Row over post-mortem exam, protesters want case filed first

Farm leaders and the family of Shubh Karan Singh, the 21-year-old Punjab farmer who died in clashes with the Haryana Police at Khanauri on Wednesday, did not allow the authorities at the Patiala-based Rajindra hospital to conduct the post-mortem examination, demanding the registration of a murder case against accused police personnel and a "martyr" status for Singh, people familiar with the matter said.

Farmers' union, Samyukt Kisan Morcha, also demanded a l-crore compensation for the family of the deceased protester and announced a Black Day and a tractor march to condemn the incident, which triggered outrage across the country and also led to a 48-hour pause in the "Delhi Chalo" march.
