PM rally puts focus on Karpoori Thakur village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch his campaign for the Bihar elections on Friday from Samastipur, the seat once represented by two-time chief minister and socialist icon Karpoori Thakur.
The move signals the ruling National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) attempts to capture a seat that the bloc has not won since 2010 — the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) secured victories in the 2010, 2015 and 2020 assembly elections.
During the 2020 elections, the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U)'s Samastipur is dominated by Muslim and Yadav voters, though Bhumihars and Rajputs constitute a good chunk of the population.
