Three dead as fire guts shanty in Anand Vihar

Three men were burned to death and one was injured when a shanty caught fire in Anand Vihar early Tuesday.
NEW DELHI: Police have registered a case of causing death by negligence in connection with the incident.
The deceased were identified as Jaggi Singh, 30, from Banda in Uttar Pradesh, Shyam Singh, 40, from UP's Auraiya, and his brother, Kanta Prasad, 37. Their colleague, Nitin Kumar, 32, from Ghaziabad, survived the fire in the shanty, said deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.
All four were employed as labourers on an Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) project at Harsh Vihar in Shahdara.
The blaze broke out in one of around seven-eight makeshift shelters on Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land near the Rotary Club.
"Preliminary investigation suggests the fire originated because a container of diesel stored on top of a cooler stand ignited. The workers used the fuel to light a lamp. The flames eventually triggered an explosion in a small cooking cylinder," Gautam said.
